Aloe vera or Aloevera is one efficacious medicinal plants to cure various diseases. This plant has been used the Samaritans about the year 1875 BC. The ancient Egyptians had known properties of aloe vera as a medicine about 1500 BC. Thanks to its benefit, the ancient Egyptians called it the plant of immortality. Aloe vera is an effective natural moisturizer that can help the healing process of cuts, burns, and scratches.

In addition, Aloe vera is also widely consumed as an alternative medicine to cure various diseases. Some scientific evidence suggests that aloe vera has positive effects on the immune system in immune diseases such as HIV.

But apparently there are some dangers that may arise when taking aloe vera juice in large numbers and in the long run.

Here are some negative effects that may occur when taking aloe vera juice:

Allergic reactionsConsumption of aloe vera should be avoided, if you have a history of allergy to garlic, onions, tulips, or other plants of the lily family.

The use of aloe vera topically or orally for people who have allergies to aloe vera can cause skin irritation, itching, cramping, and diarrhea.

Aloe vera topical may cause skin irritation. Aloe by mouth, may have a laxative effect which can cause cramping and diarrhea. This can cause electrolyte imbalances in the blood of people taking Aloe Vera for several days.

One simple way to test if you are allergic to aloe vera or not is to put some pure aloe vera fluid behind the ear.

For people who are allergic to aloe vera, it is recommended to always read the label of each product used, because aloe vera are found mainly in a large number of skin care products, natural foods and herbs, and medicinal products.

Colorectal CancerHigh doses of oral aloe dangerous. Long-term use may increase the risk of colorectal cancer. Do not take the alligator through the mouth if you have intestinal problems, heart disease, hemorrhoids, kidney problems, diabetes, or electrolyte imbalance.

Also according to genotoxicity studies showed that laxatives that contain aloe vera colorectal cancer risk even when used as directed.

According to the Flora website, Pseudomelanosis coli bacteria could arise from the use of aloe vera in the long run, which is a cause of colorectal cancer risk.

Diarrhea and CrampsAccording to Mayo Clinic, The use of aloe or aloe latex by mouth for laxative effects can cause cramping or diarrhea. Use for over seven days may cause dependency or worsening of constipation after the aloe is stopped. Aloe vera gel, topical or oral, must be free from athroquinones (especially compounds aloin). These are compounds that can irritate the digestive tract. Aloe vera leaf juice contains aloe latex, which is known as a laxative.

Aloe vera can lead to diarrhea or cramps that can cause dangerous electrolyte imbalance, even though used only a few days.
As a laxative, aloe vera is addictive and has a permanent negative effect on the health of the colon that can aggravate constipation (constipation).

Interaction. If you take medication regularly, talk with your doctor before using aloe vera supplements. Aloe Vera can interact with medications and supplements as a cure for diabetes, heart medications roots, laxatives, steroids, and licorice.

On 5 November 2002, the FDA (POM his BP America) does not recommend the use of aloe vera as a laxative.

Blood Sugar ImbalanceMayo Clinic states that aloe vera is consumed orally have the ability to lower blood sugar.

Therefore, aloe vera should not be taken by people with diabetes unless under the supervision of health workers. Aloe vera is contraindicated with drugs such as insulin hypoglycemics, DiaBeta, metformin, glyburide, and glipizide.

DeathAccording to the Mayo Clinic and Flora website, deaths due to kidney damage and severe bloody diarrhea that can occur due to toxic doses of aloe vera.
How to use: two shredded ripe noni fruit, add a little lime water. Stir until evenly distributed. Squeeze it with a cloth and drunk.

4. Aloe vera

Pharmacological effects: anti-inflammatory, laxative

How to use: 1 sheet of aloe vera is washed out, discard needles, then cut into pieces, boiled aloe vera with three cups of water until it becomes one half glass. Drink 3 x1, 5 glass after every meal.

Bitter Melon (Momordica charantia)

5. Bitter melon (Momordica charantia)

Momordica charantia, called bitter melon or bitter gourd in English, is a tropical and subtropical vine of the family Cucurbitaceae, Bitter melon, also known as balsam pear, is a tropical vegetable widely cultivated in Asia, Africa and South America, and has been used extensively in folk medicine as a remedy for diabetes. There are many varieties that differ substantially in the shape and bitterness of the fruit.

The blood sugar lowering action of the fresh juice or extract of the unripe fruit has been clearly established in both experimental and clinical studies.

Pharmacological effects: anti-inflammatory, cold nature. Charantin and polypeptide-P in bitter melon stimulates pancreatic beta cells release insulin.

Bitter melon is composed of several compounds with confirmed anti-diabetic properties. Charantin, extracted by alcohol, is a hypoglycaemic agent composed of mixed steroids that is more potent than the drug tolbutamide which is often used in the treatment of diabetes. Momordica also contains an insulin-like polypeptide, polypeptide-P, which lowers blood sugar levels when injected subcutaneously into type 1 diabetic patients. The oral administration of 50-60 ml of the juice has shown good results in clinical trials.

Bitter melon also contains a lectin that has insulin-like activity due to its non-protein-specific linking together to insulin receptors. This lectin lowers blood glucose concentrations by acting on peripheral tissues and, similar to insulin’s effects in the brain, suppressing appetite. This lectin is likely a major contributor to the hypoglycemic effect that develops after eating bitter melon.

How to use: The traditional way to consume bitter melon as a herbal medicine is to squeeze the juice. 200 grams of fresh bitter melon fruit cut into pieces, then juiced or boiled. Then the water was drunk.

Excessively high doses of bitter melon juice can cause abdominal pain and diarrhea. Small children or anyone with hypoglycemia should not take bitter melon, since this herb could theoretically trigger or worsen low blood sugar, or hypoglycemia. Furthermore, diabetics taking hypoglycemic drugs (such as chlorpropamide, glyburide, or phenformin) or insulin should use bitter melon with caution, as it may potentiate the effectiveness of the drugs, leading to severe hypoglycemia.

6. Green tea

Pharmacological effects: polyphenols in tea increases cell sensitivity to insulin. Effects of green tea on insulin was once investigated by Hiroshi Tsuneki et al and published in the journal BMC Pharmacology 2004 edition.

How to use: one tablespoon green tea leaves brewed with hot water. Drink after meals.

The use of hair care products contain many chemicals that can cause hair to become dry, dull, and easily broken. To overcome this, an occasional treat your hair with natural treatments that made his own, one with green tea.

According to wikipedia.org, Green tea is made solely with the leaves of Camellia sinensis that have undergone minimal oxidation during processing. the mean content of flavonoids in a cup of green tea is higher than that in the same volume of other food and drink items that are traditionally considered of health contributing nature, including fresh fruits, vegetable juices or wine. Flavonoids are a group of phytochemicals in most plant products that are responsible for such health effects as anti-oxidative and anticarcinogenic functions.

So far the benefits of green tea is known only to the body. In fact, the content of antioxidants in the drink is also good for hair health. The experts even believe that green tea can prevent hair loss. What are the benefits and nutritious substances from green tea?

Eliminate dandruff and psoriasis. Various studies show that green tea is effective to eliminate dandruff and skin disease psoriasis with how to deal with irritation in the scalp. Based shampoo is highly recommended green tea for dandruff hair. Alternatively, after using shampoo, rinse hair with green tea water.

Stimulates hair growth. Component called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is the most powerful antioxidants. Dilakuakan research in Japan and Korea showed EGCH have a positive effect on hair growth. The good news, green tea contains 10 percent EGCH so it is advisable to stimulate hair growth.

Against “Dihydrotestosterone” (DHT). Dihydrotestosterone is a natural testosterone found in men and women. Now scientists know that the cause of hair loss is DHT. Typical male pattern baldness is also believed to be caused because the hair follicles that are sensitive to DHT. Therefore, one strategy is to block DHT prevents hair loss.

Green tea is an herbal DHT reliable contrarian. Green tea is known to increase levels of sex hormone binding globulin (SBGH) which interacts with testosterone so as to prevent the formation of DHT.

Increases blood circulation to hair follicles. Green tea contains catechin polyphenols. Quite a lot of research that revealed this molecule to have anticarcinogenic effects and antibiotic functions. Studies in mice also showed, catechin causes blood vessels to contract thus better blood flow to the cardiovascular system and the small blood vessels to become fluent, including to the hair follicles.

Strengthens and moisturizes. Another benefit of green tea is to strengthen the hair roots because green tea contains panthenol, vitamin C and E. Vitamin E will restore the youthfulness of the dry or damaged hair. While vitamin C helps protect hair from sun’s dangerous rays. Pantenol and provitamin will make hair soft and prevent fractures.

Basil leaves have various medicinal properties. Information about Basil Leaf extract is something very interesting to dig deeper. In Latin, basil called Ocimum basilicum. Basil from English, Ocimum means scented plants. Fragrant aroma of basil essential oil derived from the content.

Allied with basil basil (Ocimun sancium), mint (Mentho arvensis), and cumin leaves (Coleus amboinicus). Its closest relatives are the bacilli (Ocimun amboinicus). The smell of basil leaves are very distinctive, strong but soft aroma with a touch of lime.

Basil has several names such as surawung (West Java), manglok (Thailand), Genovese (Mediterranean / Italian), holy basil or tulsi (India).

In Thailand, basil is used as a spice in cooking. In India and parts of Africa, basil leaves brewed into tea. Basil tea is served at the turn of the season, when local people susceptible to coughs, colds, or fevers.

In Europe, basil essential oil extracted and retrieved. Basil essential oil is widely used as an ingredient in the manufacture of medicines, soap, perfume essences, lotions, ointments, candy lozenges, and aroma therapy oils.

Basil Chemical Components and Nutrient

Basil leaves contain beta-carotene (pro vitamin A) and vitamin C. Role of beta-carotene supports the function of vision, increase the antibody response (affect immune function), protein synthesis to support the growth process, and as an antioxidant.

Vitamin C, among others, are useful for

The formation of collagen for wound healing and maintain skin elasticity. Collagen is a protein compound that affects the integrity of cell structure in all connective tissue, such as cartilage, bone matrix, tooth dentin, capillary membrane, skin and tendons (tendons).

Helps the absorption of calcium and iron,

Antioxidants,

Prevents the formation of nitrosamines which are carcinogenic (causing cancer).

Basil leaves are rich in macro minerals, namely calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. Calcium is important for the formation and growth of bone, nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction helps, and helps activate the enzyme reaction.

Phosphorus plays a role in bone growth, helps the absorption and transport of nutrients, regulate the balance of acids and bases. Magnesium helps relax the heart and blood vessels, thus improving blood flow.

Basil leaves also contain components such as flavonoids nongizi and eugenol, arginine, anetol, boron, and essential oils. And eugenol flavonoids act as antioxidants, which can neutralize free radicals, neutralize cholesterol and are anticancer.

These compounds also have anti-microbial that is able to prevent the entry of bacteria, viruses, or fungi that harm the body. Very nice basil eugenol consumed by women because it can kill the fungi that cause vaginal discharge.

The content of arginine was able to strengthen the endurance of sperm and prevent infertility. Anetol and boron compounds are also very instrumental in keeping the male and female reproductive health.

Anetol and boron may stimulate hormones estrogen and androgen, and prevent bone loss. Estrogen and androgen hormones play a role in the female reproductive system.

Essential oils easily evaporate and has biological activity as an antimicrobial. Essential oils are divided into two components, namely the component hydrocarbons and oxygenated hydrocarbons or phenol component. Phenol has a very strong antimicrobial properties.

Essential oils can prevent the growth of disease-causing microbes such as Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enteritidis, and Escherichia coli. Essential oils can also ward off infection from the virus Basillus subtilis, Salmonella paratyphi, and Proteus vulgaris.

Eugenol in basil leaves can kill the fungi that cause vaginal discharge. And stigmasterol can stimulate ovulation (egg maturation). Component of its tannins and zinc can reduce the secretion of vaginal fluid, whereas the amino acid tryptophan may delay the menopause. Components such as flavonoids orientin and vicenin on basil leaves can protect the body’s cell structure. Meanwhile, the flavonoid components such as cineole, myrcene and eugenol useful as a natural antibiotic and anti-inflammatories.

Basil seed may help constipation

Its seeds are thought to benefit people with constipation or diarrhea. Researchers believe that its seed may prevent sugar absorption by providing dietary fiber and relive constipation by acting as a bulk-forming laxative.

Anti Cancer Effect

Basil leaf extract was very effective in elevating antioxidant enzyme response by increasing significantly the hepatic glutathione reductase, superoxide dismutase, and catalase activities. . Chemo-preventive response was evident from the reduced tumor burden (the
average number of papillomas/mouse), as well as from the reduced percentage of tumor bearing-animals. Experimental studies on albino rats reported that leaf extract of Ocimum sanctum and Ocimum album (holy basil) had hypoglycemic effect. While human study also showed a significant decrease in fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels during treatment with holy basil leaves compared to during treatment with placebo leaves. Thus, basil may benefit people suffered from type 2 diabetes.

Arthritis & gout

The study found, when taken orally, extracts from two kinds of basil (Ocimum americanum and Ocimum tenuiflorum) shown to reduce inflammation in joints up to 73%, just within 24 hours.

One researcher Vaibhav Shinde from Poona College of Pharmacy in India stated that the various types of basil, the taste and aroma of the fresh leaves, proved to be effective as an anti-inflammatory drugs can help relieve pain and swelling of arthritis.
